CONGREGATIONAL RESILIENCE

Ministry is meaningful work. It's also some of the most demanding work there is.

Clergy and congregational staff carry an unusual weight—available to others in their hardest moments, often without the same support in return. If you’re noticing signs of burnout in your staff or yourself, or if you want to get ahead of it, I have a variety of resources to offer.

WHAT I OFFER

Having served in congregational ministry for over 15 years before becoming a therapist, I bring a deep understanding of how faith communities work—the structures, the culture, the unwritten expectations, and the particular costs of caring for a congregation over time. I combine that experience with clinical training in trauma, burnout, and organizational systems.

I work with congregations through individual therapy for clergy, staff and committee consulting, and values clarification work.

VALUES CLARIFICATION

I have developed a values clarification exercise that helps individuals and groups identify their core values and translate them into concrete action. I have used this with staff teams, committees, and in workshop and retreat settings.

Clarifying shared values leads to stronger alignment between personal motivations and organizational mission, more effective collaboration, and less friction in decision-making. It’s also a useful foundation for strategic planning.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR CLERGY

Ministry can be isolating in ways that are hard to explain to people outside it. The boundaries of the role, the weight of confidentiality, the expectation of availability—these create a particular kind of loneliness. I work with clergy and other faith leaders who want to prevent or recover from burnout and compassion fatigue, or who simply need a confidential space to process the demands of the work.

This is individual therapy, not coaching or spiritual direction—though my background means I’m comfortable working at the intersection of mental health and spiritual life.

STAFF AND COMMITTEE WORK

I bring a systems perspective to congregational consulting—meaning I attend to how the different parts of a congregation connect and affect one another. Small changes in communication, decision-making, or role clarity often create meaningful shifts across the whole system.

We can work on:

  • Identifying organizational patterns that create stress and conflict, and developing healthier ways of responding

  • Building shared mindfulness and resilience practices across your team

  • Strengthening communication and navigating conflict more effectively

  • Supporting staff through periods of transition or high demand

Let’s talk about what your congregation needs.
